Employer Spotlight: Loren Nancke & Company

Loren Nancke & Company (LNCo) is a full service accounting firm serving individuals and businesses in B.C. With a history and tradition of service that spans over 25 years LNCo recently opened their doors to accounting students from post-secondary schools across the lower mainland to give them an inside look at their firm and to meet the people that work there. After the event, we had the chance to sit down with one of the firm’s partners, Brett Pavan, CPA, CGA, to learn a little bit more about their firm. Here’s what he had to say.

goCPAbc:  Describe the corporate culture at LNCo in five words or less.

LNCo: Inclusive, Diverse, Hardworking, Compassionate and Fun.

goCPAbc:  What types of clients does LNCo work with?

LNCo: We typically work with small and mid-sized businesses who are seeking strong relationships and exceptional customer service.

goCPAbc:  What kind of experience would a student acquire working at LNCo that they may not get elsewhere?

LNCo: A collaborative work environment where they work with all staff.  They will gain exposure to all aspects of LNCo services and how to apply the accounting theory learned in school to real world clients.  A strong emphasis is placed on communicating in non-accounting language with clients to ensure the work we do for them is relevant and useful.

goCPAbc:  What, in your view, is the single coolest thing about working at LNCo

LNCo:  Diversity – in regards to co-workers and clients.

goCPAbc:  Tell me why a student should consider working at LNCo?

LNCo: A career with a life which can be summed up as:

  • Opportunity for growth, somewhere you can start off as junior with little to no experience and end as a Partner.
  • Reasonable working hours, our goal is to provide quality work which means reasonable working hours as tired accountants make mistakes. This keeps us engaged while helping our clients and each other.

goCPAbc:  What is something fun your company has done in the past 12 months? (e.g., volunteered as a team, had a fun Christmas party).

LNCo: After tax season party in Whistler. Most of us went early, enjoyed a beautiful day around the village, met up for a great dinner at Quattro and then stayed at the Hilton. We all had a great time.

goCPAbc:  Give me five qualities you look for in a CPA student interested in working for LNCo.

LNCo: Self-awareness, honesty, a strong work ethic, compassionate, and open-minded.

goCPAbc:  What value does a CPA or CPA student bring to LNCo?

LNCo:  Opportunity for the company to grow and expand. CPA students bring continued life, energy and future possibilities.

goCPAbc: If you could give students a glimpse into their future, what’s one thing you would tell them about what’s great about being a professional accountant?

LNCo: Being part of a community of professionals. This community will provide you with support and opportunities as you continue to challenge and expand your CPA career.
