CPA Recruit FAQ

Looking for a job with a CPA firm? Read the important points below to make sure you’re ready for the 2018 recruit!

  • If I want to work for a public practice firm, when should I go through the recruit process? Many firms do their hiring about one year in advance. So, if you are looking to start with a firm in January, May, or September of 2019 you will want to go through the recruitment process the in 2018.

 

  • When do firms accept applications, interview candidates, and make offers? Individual firms set their own application deadlines, interview period, and offer period at their own discretion. Some firms may hire on an ongoing basis throughout the spring, summer, and fall, while others may have set application deadlines. Students are responsible for familiarizing themselves with each firm’s recruiting process and deadlines.

 

  • Will there be any consistent dates among the firms? Firms have agreed to use the consistent offer acceptance (i.e., sign-back) dates for any recruiting done from January to October 2018. This allows students to make informed decisions in respect of all offers available to them, prior to accepting.  The following dates will be used:
    • Spring offer acceptance date: June 29, 2018 (applies to any offers made in 2018 prior to June 29, 2018)
    • Fall offer acceptance date: October 5, 2018 (applies to any offers made after June 29, 2018 and prior to October 5, 2018)

 

  • Will there be firm networking events over the summer in the Lower Mainland? Yes, various networking events will take place on-campus and in firm offices throughout the summer. These events are not organized by CPABC. To stay up-to-date on these events, connect with your campus accounting club and career centre.

 

  • Will CPABC be holding any other networking events? Yes, CPABC holds a number of networking events including the CPABC Employer Showcase on May 17, 2018, Connect Networking Nights in November and June, and various speed networking events throughout the year. Stay informed of all upcoming events by signing up for our CareerConnect Newsletter – you can do this by creating your MyCPA Profile, selecting British Columbia as your provincial body, and clicking “Yes, I would like to become a CareerConnect Member.”

 

  • What if I accept an offer and then subsequently receive an offer from another firm that I’d rather work at? Students should not renege on an offer they have accepted. They should honour the acceptance of an offer as a contractual agreement with the firm.
